Low NEET 2026 Score? You Can Still Become a Doctor — Here's Your Honest Plan

NEET UG 2026 results are expected within days of the 21 June re-exam. If you've qualified but your score isn't high enough for a government seat, take a breath — you are in the same position as lakhs of genuine, hardworking students. Roughly 22–23 lakh students compete for only about 1.3 lakh MBBS seats in India. That means even excellent students miss out every single year.

At MedAbroad, we are doctors first — both our founders completed MBBS abroad and now practice in India. This is the guidance we wish someone had given us.

First, know your three realistic options

Option 1: Private/deemed medical college in India. Total cost typically ₹60 lakh to ₹1.5 crore. If your family can afford it comfortably, it's a valid path — but for most families it means crushing loans.

Option 2: Drop year and repeat NEET. Works for some, but be honest with yourself: did you underperform on exam day, or is this your realistic level? A drop year costs ₹1.5–3 lakh in coaching plus a year of your career.

Option 3: MBBS abroad. Total course cost of ₹15–40 lakh at government universities recognised under NMC's FMGL Regulations 2021. This is the path our founders took.

What NEET score do you need for MBBS abroad?

You only need to qualify NEET (around the 50th percentile for General, 40th for reserved categories). There is no separate cutoff for foreign universities — but qualifying NEET is mandatory if you ever want to practice in India. If you did not qualify NEET 2026, do not let any agent tell you otherwise: you cannot get an Indian licence later.

Which country should you choose in 2026?

Approximate total budgets (tuition + hostel + living for the full course):

  • Russia: ₹25–45 lakh — government universities, strong clinical training, 6-year English-medium programs.

  • Kazakhstan: ₹20–30 lakh — close to India, growing choice for Maharashtra students.

  • Kyrgyzstan / Uzbekistan: ₹15–30 lakh — lowest budgets; choose universities carefully.

  • Georgia: ₹30–45 lakh — European exposure, higher living cost.

  • Philippines: ~₹14–23 lakh tuition — English-speaking country, US-style curriculum.

The right choice depends on your budget, your FMGE preparation plan, and the university's compliance with NMC's 54-month + 12-month internship rule — not on which agent pays the highest commission.

The 5 checks before you pay anyone a rupee

  1. Is the university government-run and listed in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools?

  2. Does the course structure meet FMGL 2021 (54 months study + 12-month internship at the same university, English medium)?

  3. What is the university's recent FMGE track record?

  4. Are all fees payable to the university's official account — never cash to an agent?

  5. Can you speak to current Indian students there?

What to do this week

Don't panic-book a seat in the first webinar you attend. Admissions for the 2026-27 intake run from now until roughly October, so you have time to decide properly — but good government-university seats do fill first.
