Most "MBBS in Russia" guides are written by marketing teams. This one is written by MedAbroad's founders — Dr. Megha C. Mahajan and Dr. Devendra Kumar Pal, both graduates of Tver State Medical University, Russia, now practicing in India. Everything below is what we lived, not what we copied.
Why Russia remains the #1 choice for Indian students in 2026
Russia has trained Indian doctors for over 60 years. In 2026 it remains the most balanced option: government universities (not private colleges), tuition of roughly ₹2.5–6 lakh per year, 6-year English-medium programs, large Indian student communities, and hospital-attached campuses that give real clinical exposure from the early years.
Eligibility for the 2026-27 intake
Minimum 50% in Physics, Chemistry, Biology in 12th (40–45% for reserved categories at many universities).
NEET qualified (mandatory to practice in India later).
Age 17+ by 31 December 2026.
No entrance exam at most government universities — admission is document-based.
Fees at top government universities (per year, approximate)
Tver State Medical University — 4,50,000 RUB (₹4.3 lakh).
Kazan State Medical University — 6,00,000 RUB (₹5.7 lakh).
Kazan Federal University — 5,40,000 RUB (₹5.1 lakh).
Volgograd, Kemerovo, Perm, Orenburg, Mari, Pskov and others — from 2,50,000 RUB (₹2.4 lakh).
All 20 universities with fees are listed on our Russia universities page.

Is the degree valid in India?
Yes — Russian government medical universities are WHO-listed, and the 6-year format (54 months + internship) aligns with NMC's FMGL Regulations 2021. After graduating you clear FMGE and complete the licensing process to practice in India.
What about the war and safety?
The honest answer, from our alumni network living there right now: student cities like Tver, Kazan and Perm are far from conflict zones and daily life is normal; flights route via Dubai/Delhi with slightly longer travel times.
